Drone victims protesting the killing of children by US drone in North Waziristan, Paksitan |
Washington: The CIA has announced that it is winding the program of targeted killing by drone in Pakistan due to stricter rules, diplomatic sensitivities and changing nature of al-Qaeda threat, according to AP.
Peter Bergen of New America foundation, Washington thinks that, "The program (in Pakistan) appears to have ended," and it will dwindle further as the CIA and the military draw down in neighboring Afghanistan, reducing their intelligence-gathering capability.
On the other hand, a U.S official who spoke on condition of anonymity, denies the claims by saying that, the Armed U.S drones are still flying over Pakistani's tribal areas, with CIA still nominating militants to the kill list.
Ironically, Pakistani's are remembering the drone attacks as a better weapon as compared with Pakistani Jets who cause more collateral damage on the ground as compared with precise drones. A ruling party member of K-PK, Rustam Shah said that U.S drones were better than Pakistani jets.
