Karachi: Archaeological experts has warned that the Sindh Festival Ceremony headed by PPP patron-in-chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari which is taking place at Mohen-jo-Daro, one of the oldest archaeological civilization site on earth, may put the site at risk.
The head of the Department of Archaeology at Punjab University, Mr Farzand Masih told AFP that such an activity was banned under the Antiquity Act.
Mohen-jo-Daro ruins, discovered by British archaeologist Sir John Marshall in 1922 are one of the largest settlements of the Indus Valley Civilisation.
Responding to the criticism, Bilawal Bhutto tweeted that he has inspected the site along with an archaeologist having 30 years of experience and took every precaution to safeguard it.
Responding to Punjab University Head's criticism, head of the Sindh Archaeology Department Mr Qasim Ali Qasim, who is also responsible for the ruins, denied any damage was being done by saying that, " I don't think that the structure or lights would harm the site," he said, " I am personally overseeing the work and it is all in accordance with the SOPs," he added.
On the other hand, Sindh High Court has agreed hear a case which seeks to bar the provincial government form building on the site.
