Corona Pandemic: Tokyo 2020 Olympics postponed

Tokyo: Tokyo Olympics are postponed until 2021. The  decision was made by Japanese prime minister, Shinzo Abe, and the International Olympic Committee president, Thomas Bach, after a conference call on Tuesday at 11am GMT.

Earlier it was understood that the exact timing of any delay to the Tokyo Games would depend on how the call went, but said that a postponement “was coming”, reported an IOC member to the guardian post.

Another source agreed saying the IOC and organisers had no choice with so many athletes and countries were urging a delay because of coronavirus.

Some in the Olympic movement were known to want to hold the Games in the autumn.

The Olympics were delayed mainly on the fear that the Bach believed that there was no guarantee that the Covid-19 virus will be under control in six months’ time and so moving it to 2021 was a safer option.
