Islamabad : Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has accepted the plea of Ward Telecom to permit it to launch 4 G services in the country.
With this, Ward Telecom has become second company to acquire the 4G licence after China Mobile company Zong.
Warid had already obtained a spectrum that would allow the roll-out of 4G which it acquired in his existing licence in 2004.
Warid has planned to launch 4G LTE (long-term evolution) to compete with his rival 4G licence holders, although it was expected earlier that PTA may withhold the request by considering the interests of other cellular companies who bought the licences for $1.12 billion.
The rival cellular companies, like Zong, have some serious reservations over this decision by the PTA as they paid heavily during the bid on the other hand Warid got the permission with out paying any thing. In a press conference, Zong lashed the decision of PTA, which will require a complete year to offer these services for its customers, while Warid could easily launch these services with in months for its customers due to its already established infrastructure.
