Islamabad : Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has clarified its position Warid Telecom's announcement of its 4G/LTE service.

Chairperson of PTA Dr Ismail Shah clarified the complex issue on Warid Telecom's announcement of starting 4G/LTE service.

"The existing Warid license is technology neutral but does not mean that it is service natural" said Dr Shah reported by The Express Tribune.

He further said that all newly launched services require proper consent from PTA along with Warid to send a proper request to start any new services and PTA will then consider such a request base on the license conditions and on the greater interests of the cellular industry, consent the bidders who had participated in the 3G/4G auction.

Warid Telecom had not participated in the said bid but today it announced through newspaper aids that it is going to start 4G/LTE service soon, China Mobile strongly protested the announcement of Warid Telecom and called on PTA to stop the company who had not participated in the auction.

Dr Shah made clear that not all release of LTE are 4G, he said  "Warid should provide details about how much spectrum would be carved out from the 8.8 MHz in 1800 band for LTE services and its impact on the existing GSM/GPRS/EDGE customers".

The PTA had accepted Warid Telecom's pleas that it has no need to get a new licence to launch 4G services
