Moscow: Russian president Vladimir Putin called the internet a CIA project, he said this while commenting about Russia's biggest search engine Yandex.
The remarks came while he was speaking at a media forum in St Petersburg, he said that the internet originally was a "CIA project" and "is still developing as such". He also made clear that Russia needs to fight for its interest on-line and will resist the influence of CIA on internet.
This week, Russian parliament has also passed a law which requires social media websites to keep their servers in Russia and save all information of their users for about six years.
