Islamabad : Pakistani jet fighters attack suspected militant hideouts in Khyber Agency near Afghan border on Thursday killing twelve and injuring more than 15 according to Geo News.
The strikes came despite efforts by Nawaz government to engage the Taliban in talks to end years of fighting with insurgency. Both the Taliban and government committees meet yesterday and announced that they were very near to achieve stability and peace in the country.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also showed his hope to engage Taliban positivelyas both committees agreed to form a sub committee to redress the grievances from both the sides.
Today's attack will has posed a big question that what was the need of such an attack when talks are moving in positive path, it will also widen the rift already caused between Nawaz government and army.
There has been no statement from interior or defence ministry yet on the attack so far, but on the other hand Pakistan army's press wing said in a text message sent to media that, "Terrorist hideouts were engaged by fighter jets in Khyber agency early morning today"
A senior military official in Peshawar said the operation, which started early on Thursday, was still under way.
"After the jets, Pakistan army ground forces also launched operation in the area", he added.
