Following the launches of the Mate 60 and the Mate 60 Pro, Huawei has now brought out the top model in the family, the Huawei Mate 60 Pro+.

This is based on the regular Pro with some components dialed up to 11. Let’s start from the top. Huawei is still keeping mum on the chipset that powers the Mates, it’s likely the 7nm Kirin 9000s that was produced in China.

Here it is paired with more RAM, 16GB (up from 12GB on the Pro), and 512GB or 1TB of storage. This is expandable via Huawei’s proprietary NM card format (which after all these years still tops out at 256GB).

The display is a 6.82” LTPO OLED, just like the Pro, but the plus is a bit sharper – it has 1,260 x 2,720px. This is a 10-bit panel with a refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz and has 300Hz touch sampling.

Brightness is controlled by a 1,440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming. The Pro+ also has three punch holes in the display – one for the 13MP selfie camera and two for the 3D ToF system.

As for the rear camera, the main module has a 48MP sensor and an OIS-enabled lens with a variable aperture (f/1.4-f/4.0). This is joined by the periscope with a 48MP sensor and 90mm f/3.0 lens with OIS.

Finally, the ultra-wide camera was upgraded to a 40MP sensor (up from 12MP on the other two Mate 60s). The battery system is unchanged, it has a 5,000mAh capacity that can be refilled at 88W over USB-C or at 50W wirelessly (both using proprietary Huawei tech).

There is 20W reverse wireless charging too, for when you need to top up other gadgets. The USB-C port is wired for USB 3.1 Gen 1, by the way. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6 (ax) and Bluetooth 5.2 with LDAC and L2HC codecs. There’s NFC on board as well, there is an IR blaster too.

The spec sheet avoids mentioning anything about 5G (or even 4G). Like the other Mates, this one supports two-way text messaging over the BeiDou network. But here’s a unique feature – the Mate 60 Pro+ can also do voice calls over the Tiantong satellite. There are no details on what kind of subscription you need for this service.
