Protests spread widely across United States the over killing of Black man George Floyd

Chanting “Hands up! Don’t shoot” and “I can’t breathe,” thousands of protesters gathered in cities across the United States on Friday night after a fired Minneapolis police officer was charged with third-degree murder in the death of George Floyd.

As unrest following Mr. Floyd’s death in custody gave way to a fourth night of demonstrations, crowds shut down Los Angeles freeways, clashed with the police in Dallas and defaced the CNN Center in Atlanta.

Even as the first night of an 8 p.m. curfew was taking effect in Minneapolis, protesters were defying it, gathering in the streets around the police station that was burned a night earlier.

Protesters filled smoky intersections and flames streamed from a bank, a post office, a restaurant and at least one car that had been set on fire, reported NYTimes.

Derek Chauvin, a white former police officer, was charged with murder days after using his knee to pin down George Floyd, a black man who later died.

RIGHT NOW : Gunshots were fired near a police precinct in Minneapolis, where a post office, bank and restaurant were among the buildings on fire after an 8 p.m. curfew.
