Karachi : A Pakistani boy which belongs to remote area of Sindh is declared top in the world for mathematics in an O level Cambridge exam held by university of Cambridge, UK.
Shahzaib Ali Abbasi, 18, also held a regional distinction in O Level in computer studies is currently studying for his A Level finals in FFC Grammar School Mirpur Mathelo near Sukkur, Sindh.
According to his father Zulfiqar, who is an agricultural officer, Shahzaib is not a bookworm and he participates in sports regularly but he has a craze for mathematics so much that even while travelling he keeps a diary and pen with him to keep solving mathematical problems.
Shahzaib Ali has received offers of scholarship from King's College London; Bath University UK and the University of Hong Kong, but wants to have a Bachelor's degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology USA.
Shahzaib wants to become a not a doctor or engineers but he wants to become a scientists to serve the masses. Shahzaib's ideal personality is Pakistani Nobel prize winner Dr Abdul Salam.
Talking about the IMO, Shahzaib said that student from 100 countries participated in the Olympiad and eligibility itself for the IMO is a very tough ask as this was a contest among the brightest minds of the world.
Behind Shahzaib's success is his mother Qamar-un-Nissa, she is a teacher and lecturer in FFC Grammar school. She is a gold-medallist in Chemistry from Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur Mir's.
“It was a moment of pride for us when he was honoured in the mathematics Olympiad in Colombo and was handed the Pakistani flag,” said Muhammad Usman who teaches Shahzaib mathematics.
