India's deputy consul general in New York, Devyani Khobragade, is accused of submitting false documents to obtain a work visa for her Manhattan housekeeper.
According to Indian officials, She was arrested and handcuffed Thursday as she dropped off her daughter at school, Devyani was kept in a cell with drug addicts until she was released after posting $250,000 bail.
AFP quoted a senior diplomat on the condition of anonymity, due to the sensitivity of the matter, that She was also stripped-searched which is most ashamed and troubling part of arrest felt in South Asian countries.
India is also reacting against the news by downgrading the privileges acquired by US diplomats in India and including the checking of how much they pay to their household employes.
