Islamabad : Pakistan has named General Rahel Sharif as its new army chief in place of General Ashfaq Pervaiz Kiyani who is retiring this month.
General Sharif is said to be the brother of a dead war hero, according to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), which also released the time less photo of new army general.
Pakistani Prime Minister's move to appoint new army general was closely watched by United States and its allies along with neighbouring countries like India, Afghanistan and China.
According to an Army think tank, the new general will largely continue the older policies of retiring army chief Ashfaq Pervaiz Kiyani to not interfere in Pakistani politics.
