Moscow: Top human right official of Russia said that it was impossible to extradite American whistle-blower Edward Snowden to the United States.

Mikhail Fedotov, who is the head of the presidential human right council told Interfax news agency that, “According to international conventions, a person who has requested temporary asylum must not be handed over,”.

He further said that, because Snowden was still in the transit zone of Sheremetyevo Airport, Moscow cannot hand him over because he is legally not in Russia,“Whatever happens, we can do nothing to please our American partners,”

On other hand U.S. ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul said Thursday that United States does not ask Russia to extradite Edward Snowden but just wants him returned.

"The U.S. doesn't ask to 'extradite' but simply to return Mr. Snowden," he wrote in his Twitter account, reported xinhu new agency.
