Shia Sunni violence has severely divided the Muslim World
Islamabad : Following the violent clashes between Shia and Sunni sects in Rawalpindi on the day of Muharram procession, (Islamic Calender) in which 10 people were killed and government imposed a three day curfew, the violence has spread in other cities of Pakistan.

Army troops were summoned in the cities of Kohat and Hangu, today after violent clashes between rival groups in which according to media reports 10 more people were killed.

The sectarian violence has been on rise in Pakistan since 1980s, with hard core Islamist (Wahabis or Salfi ) backed by Saudi Arabia has tried to impose a hard core Islam in different countries to oppose Iranian influence, on the other hand Iran is also promoting their brand of Shia Islam.

What is Shia and Sunni Islam?

Actually, there is no major difference between Shia and Sunni Islam, these both sect read same Qur'an, pray five times a day, celebrate Eids collectively. The only difference between them is that the Shia Sect says that right to government after Prophet Muhammad (s.a) was of his son in law and cousin Ali (a.s) which was denied by Sunni sect who says that according to prophet's own words their is no inheritance of him and any of his companions can rule the Muslims.
